Limite
Limite is the only feature film made by Brazilian director and author Mário Peixoto when he was only 22 years old. This avant-garde silent masterpiece, inspired by a haunting André Kertész photograph on the cover of a French magazine, centers on a man and two women lost at sea, their pasts unfolding through flashbacks propelled by music by Erik Satie, Claude Debussy, Igor Stravinsky, and others. Limite, an early work of independent South American filmmaking, was notoriously difficult to see for the majority of the twentieth century. It is a groundbreaking achievement whose timeless visual poetry continues to captivate.
