The Vision of Escaflowne

The Vision of Escaflowne is a 26-episode Japanese animation directed by Kazuki Akane. It debuted on April 2, 1996 on TV Tokyo and ended on September 24, 1996. Sony's anime satellite channel Animax aired the series in Japan and abroad, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Southeast Asia, and South Asia. Bandai Entertainment has region 1 rights. The anime depicts a teenage girl named Hitomi who is lured from Earth to the planet Gaea by a boy named Van battling a dragon on the high school track. She's entangled in a war as the Zaibach Empire tries to take over Gaea. Allen helps Van command his mystical mech Escaflowne to stop the Zaibach Empire. Hitomi's fortune telling talents grow in Gaea, helping her awaken Escaflowne and halt Zaibach's intentions. While the anime was in production, two manga retellings were written and released: The Vision of Escaflowne and Hitomi—The Vision of Escaflowne. A single volume of Escaflowne—Memories Energist's was released in 1997. Six light novels were written by Yumiko Tsukamoto, Hajime Yatate, and Shoji Kawamori. Escaflowne: The Movie was released on June24,2000, but it barely resembles the original series. Four soundtracks and a drama CD are also available.
