The Ren & Stimpy Show
Ren & Stimpy is an animated American television sitcom created by Canadian animator John Kricfalusi. The series debuted with Rugrats and Doug on Nickelodeon's Nicktoons block on August 11, 1991. Ren Hoek, an emotionally unstable chihuahua, and Stimpson J. Cat, a good-natured, dimwitted cat, are the main characters of the series. Five seasons were shown on the network. Some reviewers credit the show with paving the way for satirical animated series such as Beavis and Butthead and South Park, as well as playing an important part in television animation. The Ren & Stimpy Show was controversial throughout its run due to its obscene comedy, sexual innuendo, and violence, all of which contributed to the production staff's conflicts with Nickelodeon's Standards and Practices department. Ren & Stimpy's "Adult Party Cartoon" debuted on Spike in 2003, but was canceled shortly after its premiere.
