Spooks: Code 9
Spooks: Code 9 is a BBC Three counter-intelligence drama series that premiered in 2008. BBC Fiction Director Jane Tranter commissioned the series as a spin-off of their long-running drama Spooks, promising a "more maverick, younger perspective" that would appeal to a 16-24-year-old audience. The show follows a group of six fresh MI5 recruits who "play by a different set of rules." Kudos, an independent production company, produced the film, which was shot in and around Leeds and Bradford. The first two episodes aired on BBC Three on August 10, 2008, and were rebroadcast on August 11, 2008 on the same channel. The decision to tie the new production to the original Spooks sparked debate, with actress Georgia Moffett claiming that "it's slightly misleading in terms of the word Spooks." Chris Fry, the producer, said "This is a brand-new program. There are no crossover characters or stories, and it is situated in an entirely different universe." Following the first season's failure, executive producer Karen Wilson said that several of the existing cast members had been "contracted for another year" and specified themes "we'd like to explore if we get a second series."
