Samurai Deeper Kyo
Akimine Kamijyo created the Samurai Deeper Kyo manga series. Samurai Deeper Kyo follows Demon Eyes Kyo, a feared samurai who seeks to reclaim his body after his soul is trapped within the body of his opponent, Mibu Kyoshiro, during the Edo period of Japanese history. Shiina Yuya, the heir to the Tokugawa shogunate Benitora, and Sanada Yukimura, a noted Tokugawa adversary, join Kyo in his pursuit. Samurai Deeper Kyo was serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Shnen Magazine from October15, 1999 to May10,2006, with 38 volumes collected. In2002, the manga was turned into an animated TV show. From July2, 2002 through December23,2002, 26 episodes of the Studio Deen production aired on TV Tokyo. In the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, the manga and anime have both been licensed. Tokyopop bought the comic in 2002. By2009, however, Kodansha's licensing arrangements had expired, preventing Tokyopop from continuing the English edition of the series. Del Rey Manga quickly picked up Samurai Deeper Kyo and published volumes 35 and 36 in a single volume, as well as volumes 37 and 38 in a single volume, to conclude the series. In2003, Media Blasters' AnimeWorks label bought the anime series. In the US, it was briefly broadcast on the Encore network channels.
