Lights Out
Lights Outside was a highly popular American Idol radio program, an early instance of a network show devoted mostly to the supernatural and terror, pre dating Inner Sanctum and Suspense. Versions of Lights aired on various networks, occasionally, from January 1934 to the summer of 1947 and the show eventually made the transition.
Back in 1946, NBC Television brought Lights outside to television in a collection of four specials, produced by Fred Coe, who also contributed three of the scripts and broadcast live. NBC asked Cooper to publish the script for its premiere,"First Person Singular", which is told entirely from the perspective of an hidden murderer who murdered his obnoxious wife and winds up being implemented. Variety gave this first episode a rave review ("definitely one of the very most breathtaking shows nonetheless seen on a television monitor"), however, Lights outdid not become a routine NBC-TV series until 1949.
