Fullmetal Alchemist

Edward and Alphonse Elric are two brothers endowed with the capacity to do alchemy, the science of transforming one thing into another. However, alchemy is based on the notion of Equivalent Exchange, which states that in order to create something, something of equal value must be sacrificed. When their mother dies, Edward vows to try the unthinkable: resurrect her by breaching one of Alchemy's most sacred rules and practicing Human Alchemy. He and Alphonse make their attempt, thinking they have nothing more to lose, but something goes horribly wrong. Alphonse loses his body and Edward loses his limb as a result of the process. Ed saves Al by affixing his spirit to a suit of armor, albeit at the expense of his arm and leg.
