Degrassi Junior High
As a component of the overall Degrassi series, the Canadian teen drama series Degrassi Junior High aired on CBC Television from 1987 through 1989. The show was produced as a part of the Degrassi franchise. The show chronicled the daily activities of a number of students who attended the fictitious institution that served as the show's namesake. The series was praised for its sympathetic and realistic representation of the struggles that teenagers face in their daily lives, and several episodes dealt with sensitive subjects such as drug use, child abuse, adolescent pregnancy, homosexuality, homophobia, racism, and divorce. The majority of the actors in the performance were not professional performers, which contributed to the impression that the show was more realistic than it actually was. Stacie Mistysyn, Neil Hope, Anais Granofsky, Sarah Charlesworth, and a number of other performers were among those that starred in the series. The Kids of Degrassi Street had aired a few years prior to the premiere of this show. However, since their character identities and the circumstances of their families had been changed, Degrassi Junior High cannot be considered a direct spinoff of the original series. Stephen Stohn, who subsequently went on to become the executive producer of Degrassi: The Next Generation, served as the legal counsel for each and every one of the episodes. The empty Vincent Massey Public School in Etobicoke, Ontario served as the setting for the filming of the series.
