Daniel Deronda
Andrew Davies adapted the novel Daniel Deronda by George Eliot into a television serial drama called Daniel Deronda, which aired in the United Kingdom. The serial was directed by Tom Hooper and produced by Louis Marks. It was initially shown on BBC One in three parts between the 23rd of November and the 7th of December in the year 2002. In the television series, Hugh Dancy played the role of Daniel Deronda, Romola Garai played the role of Gwendolen Harleth, Hugh Bonneville played the role of Henleigh Grandcourt, and Jodhi May played the role of Mirah Lapidoth. WGBH Boston was the source of funds for the co-production. After a drawn-out and ultimately futile process of casting, Louis Marks ultimately decided against adapting the novel into a film and instead chose to quit the project. The drama did not debut on television for another five years after its initial production. The filming took place on several locations in England, Scotland, and Malta for a total of eleven weeks, beginning in May and ending in August. Before passing away in2010, Marks completed one more television project, and that was the serial.
