Blue Thunder

The 1984 ABC television series Blue Thunder is based on the film of the same name showcasing the Blue Thunder chopper. The series utilizes the modified Aérospatiale Gazelle chopper and substantial chunks of stock footage from the 1983 film. In the television series, the helicopter was supported by a ground unit named "Rolling Thunder." This was a big support van containing a desert-camouflaged off-road vehicle. James Farentino, Dana Carvey, and former American football professionals Bubba Smith and Dick Butkus are among the cast members of the television series. ABC canceled the show after concluding that Airwolf on CBS would prevail in the ratings war. In addition, the series ran on Friday evenings at the same time as the CBS soap opera Dallas and lost. Before the series was canceled, eleven episodes were produced.
