Without Anesthesia

When a famous Polish journalist displays his full political skill and knowledge on a television show featuring questions and answers on a world conference by a panel of journalists, he presents a problem for the powers-that-be. When he is away, his enemies revoke his privileges. The shock of being "unwanted" parallels a deeper disappointment in his personal life: his wife is having an affair with a jealous young rival and wants a divorce after 15 years of marriage and two daughters. She makes no explanations as he tries to solve these problems on his own. Every move he makes is the wrong one. After learning that his seminar has been canceled, he begins drinking heavily with students who are eager to attend. The journalist, who was once suave and commanding, has been reduced to silence.
