The Square
The Square, a new film by Jehane Noujaim (Controlroom. Rafea: Solar Mama), looks at the hard realities faced day-to-day by people trying to build Egypt's new democracy. Catapulting us in to the action spread across 2012 and 2011, the film provides a kaleidoscopic, visceral experience of this struggle. Cairo's Tahrir Square is the center and soul of the movie, which follows a couple young activists. Armed with determination, worth, new music, humor, a large amount of networking, and obstinacy, they are aware that the way to democracy began with the fall of Hosni Mubarek. The struggle between also the power of the country and the public is still playing out.
