The Rookie

Jim Morris never made it before a shoulder injury ended his pitching career. Now a chemistry teacher and baseball coach in Texas, the team of Jim would make a deal with him: if they win the district tournament, Jim will check outside with a major league company. The bet proves incentive enough for your own team, plus so they go which makes it into convey for first time in this school's history. Jim, forced to fulfill his end of the deal, is nearly laughed off the try-out field--he puts on the mound, at which he confounds that the scouts (and himself) by clocking successive 98 mph fastballs, adequate for a minor league contract with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Jim's still received lots of pitches to throw before he gets it but with his fantasies there is no telling where he can go.
