The Conductor

On a tour to the United States, a violinist in a provincial Polish orchestra, whose husband is the orchestra's director, meets the world-renowned symphonic conductor. He was previously in love with the violinist's mother, it turns out. The conductor, a mildly disturbed hypochondriac, returns to command the regional orchestra in Poland. He also tries to rekindle an old love affair by using the violinist as her mother's proxy. Her husband dislikes the conductor for personal and professional reasons.
