Reaching for the Moon
Elizabeth Bishop travels to Rio de Janeiro to stop by a faculty friend, Mary. The timid Elizabeth is inundated by Brazilian sensuality. She is the antithesis into the dashing partner, architect Lota de Macedo Soares of Mary. Even though frosty at first, the architect makes a play for Elizabeth and Lota's progress are finally succumbed to by the poet. Mary is jealous, however, unconventional Lota is made to own women at any cost. Balance has been thrown off if Lota starts focus with her biggest job to date. Elizabeth takes an academic instruction article in the united states and the ladies drift. Lota, at all other times filled with self confidence, is inconsolable. This triangle works out against the backdrop of the military coup of 1964.
