While Japan colonizes Korea jun-shik, that works for Tatsuo's grandfather's farm, fantasies of participating as a marathon runner from the Tokyo Olympics. Tatsuo intends to develop into a marathon runner, and therefore the 2 become rivals. But the war breaks out plus they both are made to enlist in the army. Tatsuo becomes the thoughts of defense in Jun-shik's unit and he devises a plot but neglects. Tatsuo and jun-shik are held by the Soviets. They run off but so on are recorded by the Germans and forced to split up. In 1944they meet again on the beaches of Normandy.
