Mr. Jones
Gareth Jones, a Welsh journalist, travels by train from Moscow to Kharkov in Ukraine in March 1933. He disembarks at a small station and embarks on foot on a journey through the country, witnessing firsthand the horrors of a famine. Everywhere he goes, he meets henchmen of the Soviet secret service who are determined to keep news of the disaster from reaching the general public. Stalin's forced collectivisation of agriculture has resulted in misery and ruin; the policy is tantamount to mass murder. Jones, with the help of New York Times reporter Ada Brooks, succeeds in spreading the shocking news throughout the West, putting his powerful rival, Pulitzer Prize-winning, pro-Stalin journalist Walter Duranty, in his place.
