Longtime Companion
Longtime Companion follows the lives of a circle of friends from the very first reference to this disease from the New York Times from 1981. First described as"Gay-Related-Immune-Disorder," we see the result of this disease because it devastates the lives of our protagonists. Jumping between Fire and Manhattan Island, vignettes carry us from the it-couldn't-happen-to-me mindset of their early days of this disease to the ill effect effect it has had on most our lives, today. The title of this film originates from the New York Times' refusal to admit gay relationships inside their obituary section during this period. Rather, squirrels were known for"Longtime Companions" of the deceased
