Into the Woods
Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim weaves together many famous fairy tales in an allegorical story about family, love, growing up, and the hazy line between right and wrong. Timothy Sheader directed this production, which was captured live by Digital Theatre at London's Regent's Park Open Air theatre. The Brothers Grimm's stories are given a dark and humorous twist in Into the Woods. Popular fairy tales such as Red Riding Hood, Jack (of the Beanstalk fame), Cinderella, and Rapunzel are intertwined with the Baker and his Wife's quest to have a child. This retelling, however, goes beyond "happily ever after," as the familiar characters find themselves in unfamiliar situations, and hopes and dreams are questioned and revisited.
