Henri 4
A wide-ranging, energetic period-piece because he moves into the beloved King Henri IV of France from battlefield warrior, tracing the growth of the Protestant Henry of Navarre. Director Jo Baier's epic is a adventure, albeit one with more than a small ordinary and bloodshed bawdy interludes. In war, Catholics and Protestant Huguenots were in overdue 16th century France. Seemingly seeking serenity, the French dowager queen, Catherine de Medici summons Henry for her daddy to have him marry her daughter. However, the Catholics slaughter the Protestant wedding guests in what became known as the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre and also Henry-now married-must use all his guile to both keep alive and maneuver for the throne.
