Girl Model

Despite the absence of clear parallels between Siberia and Tokyo, a booming model industry connects these different locations. GIRL MODEL follows two protagonists involved in this industry: Ashley, a deeply ambivalent model scout who combs the Siberian countryside for fresh faces to send to the Japanese market, and one of her discoveries, Nadya, a thirteen-year-old plucked from the Siberian countryside and dropped in the heart of Tokyo with the promise of a lucrative career. After Ashley's initial discovery of Nadya, the two rarely meet again, although their stories are intertwined. Ashley's more pessimistic view of the industry's damaging impact contrasts with Nadya's growing confidence about saving her family from their financial woes.
