Drowning Mona

Many things may be said about the recently deceased Mona Dearly (Bette Midler), including that she was an abusive wife, a dominating mother, a loud-mouthed neighbor, and a violent malcontent. Because of this, when her car and body are recovered in the Hudson River, police Chief Wyatt Rash (Danny DeVito) believes it was a homicide and not an accident. The problem is that the entire town of Verplanck, New York, harbors a profound aversion to this unrelentingly bitter woman, and Rash finds himself swamped with prospective suspects during his murder inquiry.
