Confronted by Racism as well as a father that was Minister of Censorship, Ingrid Jonker searched for a residence, searched for love. With men like Jack Cope and also André Verge she discovered much love, yet no residence. Later, in his initial speech to the South African Parliament Nelson Mandela read her poem "The Dead Youngster of Nyanga" and resolved her as one of the finest poets of South Africa.
