Daphne, an American girl, travels to Europe in search of her father, whom she has never met. Instead of finding a British counterpart to her bohemian mother, she discovers that the love of her mother's life is an uptight politician. The only problem is that Daphne's long-lost father is now engaged to a fiercely territorial social climber with a daughter who makes her life miserable.
