At Drew Xanthopoulos' intimate and cinematic documentary, we meet with a patriarch whose affliction is so all-encompassing he's indifferent to his long-suffering wife, Joe. And twin sisters Sam and Nathan, musicians that are no more in a position to breathe out their reallife sterile"plastic bubble," and his mother, Karen, acquired her illness when she was just 17. These characters suffer from debilitating sensitivities with their atmosphere. Whether from electricity, genetics, compounds, or even psychogenic causes, the reason is not yet determined, but the reality of the effects on these individuals is incontrovertible. Fortunately, Susie Molloy, a silent fire brand who is chemically sensitive herself, seeks to help. Inside her, those afflicted by this contemporary malady have found an advocate whose mission is to de-stigmatize this particular community, and Xanthopoulos has crafted a picture as profoundly sensitive and painful as its title suggests, in telling their stories.
