The Profession of Arms
In the fall of 1526, Emperor Charles V dispatched a force of German landsknechts under the command of Georg von Frundsberg to march on the Eternal City. Giovanni de' Medici's weak papal forces try to pursue them through a severe winter. However, through the cunning of its Lords, the Imperial soldiers were able to ford the rivers that blocked their path and get artillery. Giovanni de' Medici gets shot in the leg with a falconet during a fight. All of our best efforts to save him were in vain, and he ultimately passed away. Rome is under attack from Imperial forces. The film depicts the harsh conditions and lack of glory of combat in a setting that is gorgeous but unpretentious. After Giovanni de'Medici's death, the commanders of Europe's armed forces made a public announcement that they would no longer employ fire weapons due to their brutality.
