The Honorary Consul
It is set in a small politically unstable Latin American country and follows Dr. Eduardo Plarr, who is half English and half Latino, as he seeks a better life away from his home. The journey takes him through a variety of characters, including British Consul Charley Fortnum, a representative in Latin America who is seeking to prevent Revolution from taking place in the country. He is also a recovering alcoholic who harbors sorrow for his actions. An additional person who the doctor meets is Clara, with whom he immediately falls in love. However, there is one problem: Clara is Charley's wife, and the doctor cannot be with her.
