The Counterfeiters
Bernard, an Olivier's schoolfriend preparing for his bac, discovers he is a bastard and uses this as an excuse to flee home. He sleeps in Olivier's bed for the night (where Olivier describes a recent visit to a prostitute and how he did not find the experience very enjoyable). Bernard is made Edouard's secretary after stealing the bag belonging to Olivier's uncle, Edouard, and the attendant problems. Olivier is enraged and falls into the hands of the cynical and simply evil Comte de Passavant, who joins him on his journey to the Mediterranean.
