The Carpetbaggers
As a 1964 American film, George Peppard portrays Howard Hughes, while Alan Ladd, who played a former Western gunslinger turned actor under the moniker Nevada Smith in a prequel starring Steve McQueen, portrays Nevada Smith, who was played by Peppard in the original film. John Hughes' epic Hell's Angels inspired Carroll Baker to play an actress based on Jean Harlow, who starred there. Dmytryk directed The Carpetbaggers in 70mm; Ladd died a few months before its release. It was Dmytryk's final film. George Peppard plays a hard-driving industrialist in the film who is eerily similar to Howard Hughes in personality and ambition. People who care about him attempt to get to know the real him while he's busy doing all of those other things, but it's an uphill struggle. An allusion to self-promotional tycoons who quickly seize control of companies, enforce authoritarian rules, and then leave for better opportunities.
