Shoah
Without using a single frame of archive film, Claude Lanzmann directed this 912-hour documentary about the Holocaust. He conducts conversations with Holocaust survivors, eyewitnesses, and former Nazis (whom he had to film secretly since they only agreed to be interviewed by audio). His method of interviewing, which entails eliciting minute details, is successful at compiling these information into a terrible portrayal of the events surrounding the Nazi Holocaust. He also demonstrates, or rather, allows some of his subjects to demonstrate, that the anti-Semitism that resulted in the deaths of 6 million Jews during the Holocaust is still alive and well in a large number of individuals who live in Germany, Poland, and elsewhere.
