Shadows
The directorial debut of john Cassavetes revolves around a romance in New York City between Lelia, a light- skinned black woman, and Tony. The connection is put in jeopardy when Tony matches the darker-skinned jazz singer Lady, Hugh of Lelia, and discovers that her racial heritage is not exactly what he thought it had been. Shot on location in Manhattan with a nonprofessional cast and crew, Shadows can be just a work that's widely considered the forerunner of this American independent film movement.
