Piñero
"Piero" chronicles the explosive life of a Latino icon, gay poet-playwright-actor Miguel Piero, whose urban poetry is regarded as a forerunner of rap and hip-hop. Piero's prison experiences inspired the 1974 Tony-nominated play Short Eyes, which he wrote after serving time in hard-core Sing-Sing for petty thefts and drug dealing. The resulting notoriety and fame were too much for the Latino bad-boy genius, who retreated to New York's seedier neighborhoods.
