Moll, the daughter of a thief, is placed in the care of a convent after her mother's execution. As a result of the abusive deeds of a priest, Moll rebelled as a teenager and fled to the perilous streets of London. Further setbacks force her to accept a job as a prostitute from Mrs. Allworthy's cunning scheme. There, Moll first encounters Hibble, who works as Allworthy's servant but takes a special interest in the young woman. With his assistance, she maintains optimism for the future and eventually falls in love with an unorthodox artist who offers the potential of romantic satisfaction.
