Le Samouraï
Alain Delon plays Jef Costello, a contract killer with samurai instincts, in a role that changed the course of his career. After carrying out a hit that went exactly as planned, Jef is caught between a persistent police investigator and a cruel boss. His fedora and trench coat can't protect him from either of them. Le Samoura is an elegantly styled masterpiece of cool by maverick director Jean-Pierre Melville. It is a razor-sharp mix of American gangster movies from the 1940s and French pop culture from the 1960s, with a lot of Japanese lone-warrior mythology thrown in.
