This romantic and politically symbolic film about a Polish photographer (Krystyna Janda) and her married French lover (Paul) is characterized by extensive dialogue and a tight emphasis on a single apartment scene (Sami Frey). Prior to Malgorzata's departure to Warsaw and Paul's return to his wife and child, the two meet in West Berlin to spend some time together.
