It Was a Faint Dream
The story is set in 13th century Kyoto, when the Imperial court is ruled by the clergy. Shijo was a poor girl who was sold as a concubine to a powerful daima. She begins an affair with a State Councillor and the retiring Emperor's brother. A nun who realises she is merely a pawn of the court wanders the countryside.
