Everything Is Copy
Nora Ephron, the Hollywood-raised daughter of screenwriters who grew up to be an excellent reporter turned piercingly witty essayist turned novelist/screenwriter/playwright/director, is honored in Jacob Bernstein's highly entertaining film. Ephron's words, the recollections of her sisters, coworkers, past spouses, and many friends, moments from her films, and, most all, her own inimitable presence come to life onscreen. Take a look at any of Ephron's brilliant, caustically witty moments (for example, this answer to a scolding talk show host— "Don't you have a soft spot for Julie Nixon? I don't have any, you see ") and it's difficult to imagine she's been gone three years. Everything Is Copy (Ephron's mother's credo) is a lovingly rendered but candid portrayal, as well as a striking snapshot of an earlier, livelier, bitchier, and funnier era in New York culture.
