Descendant
There is more to history than what has been written down. Residents of Mobile, Alabama's Africatown neighborhood have passed down anecdotes and tales about their families' histories for many generations. Their village was established by ancestors who were slaves when they were carried to the area in 1860 aboard the Clotilda, which was the last known and illegal slave ship. Even though the ship was deliberately sunk as soon as it reached port, its history and legacy are still with us. This community now has a concrete link to their ancestors thanks to the long-awaited discovery of the Clotilda's bones, which also provides legitimacy of a past that so many people attempted to conceal.
