Birds Are Singing in Kigali
At the time of our meeting with ornithologist Anna, genocide is unfolding in Rwanda, perpetrated by the majority Hutus against the minority Tutsis. Anna is successful in saving the daughter of a colleague whose family has been slain, and she transports her to Poland. However, the woman returns to Rwanda to pay her respects at the graves of her loved ones. The filmmaker first collaborated with her husband, Krzysztof Krauze (My Nikifor – Crystal Globe, KVIFF 2005), but after his death in 2014, she was left to complete this difficult project on her alone.
