A futuristic structure that will shortly be inaugurated rises over a suburb of Dakar and can be seen along the shore of the Atlantic Ocean. Ada, who is 17 years old, has feelings for Souleiman, who is a young construction worker. On the other hand, she is obligated to marry another man. One evening, Souleiman and his fellow employees make their escape from the country by boat in the anticipation of a brighter future. A few days later, Ada's wedding is destroyed by fire, and a mysterious fever begins to spread throughout the town. Ada is completely unaware that Souleiman has already returned.
