Paris, post-1945: GI Jerry Mulligan decides to stay in the City of Lights after falling in love at first sight with a mademoiselle. Jerry meets pianist Adam Hochberg, who, unbeknownst to Jerry, likes the same woman. They are tasked with collaborating on a ballett with the stated woman, who has been promised to Henri Baurel. Henri meets Jerry and Adam as well.
