Akeelah and the Bee
Eleven year-old Akeelah Anderson's life is not easy her mom ignores herbrother works together with the gangbangers. She's smart, but her environment threatens to grope her aspirations. Reacting to a hazard by the principal of her school, Akeelah participates at a parasitic to avoid detention. Much to her surprise and embarrassment, she wins. Her chief requests her to seek training from a British professor called Dr. Larabee for its prestigious regional bee. Akeelah could provide someone to her community to rally around and be proud of -- but only if she could overcome her insecurities and her home life that is distracting as of making it all the way into the Scripps National Spelling Bee, the possibility looms. She must get past Dr. Larabee's demons, and a field of experienced and privileged fellow spellers.
